What ‘net-zero ready’ actually means for a home in Pune
Solar, heat pumps and insulation: the three moves that cut a townhouse's energy bill by two-thirds.
At Verde Row every townhouse is designed to be net-zero ready. That phrase gets used loosely, so here is what we mean by it.
Use less first
Thick walls, shaded windows and cross-ventilation mean the homes stay cool for most of the year without air conditioning.
Make the rest on the roof
A 6 kW solar array on each roof covers the home's annual electricity use.
Heat water with a heat pump
Heat pumps use a third of the electricity of a geyser.
The result: an average bill that is a third of a comparable home's, and a house that can be fully net-zero by adding a battery.
