The piece

The top is laid up from wide boards selected for grain continuity, so the table reads as one surface rather than a glue-up. We leave a small chamfer at the edge, which is the detail that keeps a table this size from looking heavy.

The finish is a hardwax oil. It will mark, and those marks sand out in an afternoon, which is the point of buying solid timber in the first place.

Materials & care

Solid European oak top, 40 mm, hardwax oil finish. Squared oak legs with a steel-plated fixing. No veneer anywhere in the piece.

Wipe spills promptly. Use a board for anything hot. Refresh the oil once a year, or whenever water stops beading on the surface.
