The piece

We drew Aster around a single question: what does a sofa need to be if you plan to keep it for twenty years? The answer was a kiln-dried hardwood frame, joined and doweled rather than stapled, and a seat cushion built in layers so it softens without collapsing.

The cover is a heavyweight washed linen that creases the way linen should. Every cover is removable, and replacements are cut from the same run of cloth for as long as we hold it.

Materials & care

Kiln-dried beech frame with doweled joints. Seat cushions in layered high-resilience foam wrapped in feather. Washed linen cover, removable and dry-clean only. Solid oak feet, oiled.

Vacuum the cover monthly with a soft brush head. Rotate the cushions when you think of it. Keep out of direct afternoon sun, which will lighten the linen unevenly.
