Notes from room nine

Four cutting tables, twelve people and a rail that is never full. A short tour of where the collection is made.

The studio is one room on the ninth floor of an old print works in Bengaluru. The label is named after the room, not the other way round.

The tables

There are four cutting tables. Cloth is laid out in a single layer and cut by hand with shears, one garment at a time. It is slower than stack cutting and wastes less.

The rail

Finished pieces hang on a steel rail by the window in the order they were completed. That order becomes the number after each name.

Visiting

The studio is open Tuesday to Saturday from 11:00 to 19:00. Fittings are by appointment so that someone can give you their full attention.
