When to book, which days to fly and the three settings that do most of the work for you.

There is no secret hour when airlines drop their prices. There are, however, a few habits that reliably save money, and none of them takes more than five minutes.

Book in the right window

For domestic flights, fares are usually lowest three to six weeks before departure. Inside two weeks they climb steadily. For international trips, look eight to twelve weeks ahead, and earlier still for December and May.

Fly when others do not

Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays are the cheapest days on most Indian routes. The first flight of the morning and the last at night cost less than the convenient mid-morning ones. Moving your trip by a single day can save a quarter of the fare.

Use the fare calendar

On any Tripvana flight search, switch to the calendar view to see the lowest fare for every day of the month. If your dates are flexible, this one screen does the comparing for you.

Set a price alert

Fares move several times a day. Turn on an alert for your route and we will message you when the price drops. Decide your target in advance, and book when you see it rather than waiting for a few rupees more.

Check the nearby airport

Goa has two airports and so does the Delhi region. A flight into the other one can be much cheaper, even after the longer cab ride.

Read the fare before you pay

The lowest fare often has no free changes and a smaller baggage allowance. If there is any chance your plans will move, a flexible fare that costs a little more is the cheaper choice in the end. Add baggage online, where it costs about half the airport rate.

Stack your savings

Bank offers and coupon codes apply on top of sale fares. Check the offers page before you pay, and use the same card for the whole booking so the discount covers every traveller.
