Three nights in the jungle, three by the sea and one day on an island of cliffs.

Bali works for a honeymoon because it lets you do a great deal or nothing at all, often on the same day. The mistake couples make is changing hotels too often. Two bases are enough.
Days 1 to 3: Ubud
Drive ninety minutes from the airport to the hills. Book a villa with a private pool on the edge of the jungle and give the first afternoon to it. On day two, walk the rice terraces at Tegallalang before nine, when the paths are empty, then visit the water temple where locals come to bathe in the spring. Day three is for a couples' massage and the craft villages. Evenings in Ubud are quiet: a temple dance, a long dinner and an early night.
Day 4: The drive south
Break the journey at a coffee plantation and at the sea temple of Tanah Lot, which stands on a rock in the surf. Reach Seminyak in time for sunset on the beach.
Days 5 and 6: Seminyak and Uluwatu
Seminyak has the island's best restaurants and beach clubs. Spend a day between the pool and the shops. On the next, head to the Uluwatu cliffs in the afternoon. The temple sits seventy metres above the sea, and the fire dance at sunset is staged with the ocean behind it. Finish with grilled seafood on the sand at Jimbaran.
Day 7: Nusa Penida
A fast boat takes forty minutes to this rugged island. The viewpoint above the famous cliff beach is the picture you have already seen. The roads are rough, so go with a driver, and carry a hat.
What it costs
Seven days with pool villas, private transfers and most activities starts at about ₹75,000 per person without flights. Indian passport holders get a visa on arrival.
When to go
May, June and September have dry weather without the crowds of July and August. Tell your hotel it is your honeymoon. Most will decorate the room and many add a free dinner.
