Why curing matters more than the mix

A perfect mix can lose a third of its strength if it dries out in the first week. Here is how to cure properly.

Cement needs water to keep reacting. If the surface dries, the reaction stops and the top layer stays weak and dusty.

Start curing as soon as the surface can take it without marking. Pond slabs, wrap columns in wet hessian and mist plaster twice a day.

Cure for at least seven days with OPC and ten with blended cements. In hot wind, double the effort.
