Cold water, shade and patience. How to keep a hoodie or sweatshirt looking right for years.

Loopback, or French terry, is knitted with small loops on the inside. Those loops are what make it breathable, and they are also what heat damages first.
Wash cold, inside out
Thirty degrees is enough. Turning the garment inside out protects the face of the fabric from rubbing against the drum.
Skip the dryer
Dry flat in the shade. Hanging a wet heavyweight hoodie stretches the shoulders, and direct sun fades dark colours.
Wash less
A sweatshirt worn over a tee does not need washing after every wear. Air it overnight and it is ready again.
A little pilling under the arms in the first month is normal and settles after two or three washes.
