Six o'clock, slow looms and wool that takes three times longer to weave. Why our coats start in Aichi.

The looms at the mill we work with in Bishu start before the sun is up. They are old shuttle looms, and they run at about a third of the speed of a modern machine.

Why slow matters

A slow loom puts less tension on the yarn. The cloth comes off softer and denser, with a handle you can feel the moment you pick it up. It is the reason our wool coats hold their shape for years.

The finishing

After weaving the cloth is washed in soft river water and dried flat, then brushed by hand on one face. It takes a full week from loom to bolt.

Following the cloth

You can see every mill we use on the fabric origins map, and each product page shows where its cloth was woven, dyed and finished.
