Cool water, wool soap, a towel and a flat surface. The four things that keep a knit soft for twenty years.
Less often than you think
Cashmere does not need washing after every wear. Air it overnight, fold it, and wash it every five or six wears.
Cool water, gentle soap
Fill a basin with cool water and a spoon of wool soap. Press the knit under, leave it for ten minutes, then rinse in clean water of the same temperature.
Never wring. Roll it in a towel and press.
Dry it flat
Lay the knit on a dry towel, ease it back to shape with your hands and leave it away from radiators and sun.
Fold, never hang
Hangers stretch shoulders. Fold your knits and store them with cedar.
