Combed in spring, spun in summer, knitted in autumn. Following one crew from the herders to the Knit Room.
Every Halvard knit begins on the high plateaus of Mongolia, where goats grow a soft undercoat against the winter.
Combed, not shorn
In spring the herders comb the down by hand as the goats moult. Only the finest fibres, under 15.5 microns, are kept for our yarn.
Spun two-ply
The fibre is dehaired, spun and twisted into two-ply yarn. Two plies make a knit that holds its shape and resists pilling.
A good knit is decided at the yarn, long before the frame.
Fully fashioned
In the Knit Room every panel is knitted to shape, then linked stitch by stitch so the seams lie flat.
Washed and finished
Each knit is washed in soft water, pressed and checked by hand before it is folded into tissue.
