The toy rotation trick that doubles playtime
Fewer toys out means more focus. Here's how to set up a two-week rotation in ten minutes.
If your living room looks like a toy shop exploded, you're not alone. The fix isn't fewer toys, it's fewer toys out at once.
Why rotation works
Children play longer and more deeply when they have six to eight choices instead of thirty. A toy that disappears for two weeks comes back feeling brand new.
How to start
Split everything into three baskets. Keep one out, store two. Every second Sunday, swap a basket. Keep favourites (the comfort bunny, the stacking tower) out all the time.
What goes in each basket
Aim for one thing to build with, one thing to pretend with, one book, one thing to move with and one sensory toy. That's a balanced shelf.
The surprise bonus
Tidying gets easier. Six toys go back on the shelf in two minutes, and little ones can do it themselves.
