Good leather asks for very little. A few habits will keep your bag well for decades.
Every week, wipe the bag with a dry, soft cloth. Empty it now and then and shake out the dust.
Twice a year, work a small amount of neutral leather balm into the surface with a cloth, leave it overnight and buff. Test on the base first. Do not use balm on suede linings.
If the bag gets wet, blot, do not rub. Stuff it with paper and let it dry at room temperature, away from heaters and sun.
Store the bag in its cotton dust bag, lightly stuffed, standing upright. Avoid plastic covers, which trap moisture.
Vegetable-tanned leather darkens with light and handling. Small scratches can be rubbed out with a fingertip. Pale colours can pick up dye from dark denim, so take care in the first weeks.
