Buckets, twine and a very cold room: a morning with the florists who condition, tie and wrap every bouquet we send.

Every bouquet that leaves Petal & Stem is made by hand on the day it is delivered. The Flower Studio sits behind the shop floor on Rosewater Lane, and it is the busiest room in the building.

The morning

It starts at six, when the growers' vans arrive. Every stem is stripped, re-cut and left to drink in the cooler for at least four hours before anyone arranges it.

The work

A hand-tied bouquet takes about fifteen minutes; a wedding takes three days. The Studio is also where we hold consultations, plan events, set up subscriptions and teach Saturday workshops.

A good bouquet looks effortless. That takes a great deal of effort.
