Petal & Stem

About us

Our story

Flowers the way a garden grows them.

Petal & Stem started in 2011 as a market stall with three buckets and one rule: sell only what is in season. Today we are a small team of florists and drivers in an old warehouse in Portland, buying from growers we know by name and tying bouquets, dressing weddings and potting plants by hand.

01

In season

Tulips in spring, dahlias in autumn. Nothing flown in to fake a month it is not.

02

Tied by hand

One florist builds each bouquet from loose stems, so no two are quite the same.

03

Kind to the ground

No floral foam, no plastic sleeves. Paper, twine and vessels you can keep.

How a bouquet is made

Grow. Cut. Tie. Keep.

  1. Step 1

    Grow

Every week starts with a call to the farms: what is opening, what is nearly over.

  2. Step 2

    Cut

Stems are cut at dawn and conditioned in cool water before they reach the bench.

  3. Step 3

    Tie

Each bouquet is spiralled by hand, wrapped in paper and given a water bag for the journey.

  4. Step 4

    Keep

A care card goes in every order. Follow it and most bunches see out the week.
