Woke up above the clouds
The mist sat under the deck like a lake. We had coffee in the hammock net and watched a pair of hornbills fly past at eye level. Nothing else on our trip came close.
The bungalow felt like family
Three generations under one roof and everyone found a corner. The kids learnt carrom from the butler and my father spent every morning on the veranda with the newspaper.
The pool at sunset
Worth every rupee. The pool really does look like it pours into the valley, and dinner arrived at the deck without us having to ask twice.
Coffee rows at the door
Somanna's plantation walk was the highlight. I now know more about coffee than I ever expected to, and I have the beans to prove it.
Sleeping in the forest
It rained all night and we watched it from bed through the glass. In the morning a giant squirrel ran across the deck. Magical and very warm inside.
The stream sang us to sleep
The fireplace, the board games and the sound of the stream. The kids swam at the waterfall every afternoon and refused to leave.
Wonderful, bring a torch
The treehouse is everything the photos say. The walk up at night is a little steep, so carry the torch they give you. Breakfast was superb.
Our anniversary, sorted
They set up a bonfire on the lawn with our names in fairy lights. The kitchen made a cake with estate coffee. We are coming back next year.
A house with stories
Every room has a story and the staff know all of them. The four-poster beds are enormous and the hall fireplace was lit every evening.
Best coffee of my life
Came for the coffee tasting and stayed for the kindness. The roaster let me roast my own batch and it was better than anything in Shoreditch.
Monsoon done right
Leech socks, umbrellas and hot chocolate were all waiting. The rain never stopped and we never minded. Wi-Fi is weak in the cabins, which we liked.
Quietest weekend in years
No traffic, no notifications, just water and birds. The Kodava kitchen class was a lot of fun and the pandi curry was the best I've had.
Dawn birding was unreal
We saw a Malabar trogon and a paradise flycatcher before 7 am. The naturalist was patient with our very loud six-year-old.
Perfect for a group
Six of us, one bungalow, a bonfire every night. The waterfall trek was properly tough and properly worth it.
Stars over the pool
On a clear night the stars reflect in the plunge pool. I have never seen so many. Staff are warm without ever hovering.
Lovely and simple
A simple, beautiful room with an incredible veranda. The road in is rough for the last 3 km, so drive slowly. Everything else was perfect.
Our honeymoon
We booked the glass cabin for our honeymoon and it was the most romantic place we stayed. The outdoor shower among the ferns is a dream.
Like my grandfather's house
The stone walls and the smell of wood smoke took me straight back to my childhood in Madikeri. Thank you for keeping the old ways.
Worth the long drive
Five hours from the airport and I'd do it again tomorrow. The transfer driver stopped for filter coffee at all the right places.
Christmas in the hills
A Christmas tree in the hall, carols round the fire and plum cake made with estate coffee. Our kids still talk about it.
