The blouse changes the saree more than any accessory. Six necklines worth knowing before you call the tailor.

A blouse piece is less than a metre of cloth, but its cut decides how the whole drape reads.
Round neck
The classic. It suits every fabric and every age, and works best with cotton and handloom sarees for daily wear.
Sweetheart
A curved, heart-shaped front that flatters most shapes. Pair it with georgette, chiffon and organza for parties.
Boat neck
A wide, high neckline that sits close to the collarbone. It looks sharp with Chanderi and linen, and needs no neckpiece at all.
V neck
It lengthens the neck and balances a heavy border. A good match for Banarasi silks and tissue sarees.
High collar
A band collar with a front or back opening. It gives cotton and ikat sarees a tailored, office-ready finish.
Deep back with a tie
A modest front with a low back and a dori to fasten it. Made for Kanjivaram and Paithani silks, where the pallu is pleated and the back is on show.
