Our story

Why we started
Taani began in 2012 with forty sarees and a rented room off Commercial Street. The idea was plain: name the fabric honestly, pay the weaver on delivery, and send every saree ready to wear. Taana is the warp, the thread that runs the length of the loom, and it is the part of a saree nobody sees and everything depends on. We still buy directly from the loom, and we still know which family wove each piece.

A design is drawn in Bengaluru and sent to the cluster that weaves it best: brocade to Varanasi, korvai borders to Kanchipuram, fine cotton to Chanderi and Maheshwar. A silk saree takes between four and twenty days on the loom. When it reaches us it is checked along its full length under daylight, the fall and pico are stitched, and it is folded in muslin before it ships.
