Concealment as a kind of power
An editorial about what fabric hides and what it makes louder, shot over two days in a rented chambre de bonne.
The brief was a coat. I asked if we could make it about the face instead, or the absence of one. We built a single light, a sheet of organza and a wall that had been painted eleven times.
Each frame is a negotiation between the model and the cloth. Some of the best ones happened when she stopped posing and started fighting the drape.
Process
Shot on medium format, scanned flat, then printed through a slightly warm developer so the whites keep a pulse.
The series ran as a 14-page story and three images now live in the print shop.
