Residential · Bandra West, Mumbai
The brief was simple: let the sea in and give a growing art collection room to breathe.

Overview
The apartment had good bones and poor light: a corridor plan, small windows and dark laminate. We removed two partitions, rebuilt the window seats and turned the corridor into a gallery that pulls you towards the sea.

Design concept
Listen
Three long sessions with the family, mapping where they read, eat, work and argue.
Open
Two partitions removed to give the living room a 9-metre line of sight to the water.
Layer
Oak, sage lime plaster and wool rugs chosen against the grey monsoon sky.
Finish
A gallery wall hung salon-style, lit by picture lights on their own dimming scene.
Highlights
- Window seats with hidden storage for 400 books
- Salon gallery wall with dedicated picture lighting
- Sage lime plaster that changes through the day
- Custom oak coffee table made in Channapatna
“We used to keep the curtains shut. Now the whole family ends up in the window seat at sunset.”
