Villa · Assagao, Goa
A holiday home that had to survive four months of monsoon and still feel barefoot-easy.
LocationAssagao, Goa
Area4,800 sq ft
Duration11 months
Year2024

Overview
Built on a sloping plot of cashew trees, the villa needed interiors that could breathe. We used exposed timber ceilings, kota stone, rattan and hand-loomed cotton so the house ages gracefully in humid air.

Design concept
01
Site
We studied the plot through one full monsoon before fixing a single material.
02
Breathe
Cross ventilation and slatted shutters replace most of the air-conditioning.
03
Craft
Rattan and cane pieces made with a cooperative in Kerala.
04
Rest
Bedrooms with deep verandahs and stone baths open to the sky.
Highlights
- Kota stone floors with a matt sealed finish
- Timber rafters left exposed and oiled
- Outdoor stone baths in two bedrooms
- Rattan furniture made by a Kerala cooperative
“It feels like the house was always there, waiting under the trees.”
