Four pages are all you need to start. Here is the simple layout we use ourselves.

Bullet journals on social media can look like art projects. The method itself is plain, fast and forgiving. You need a dot grid notebook, one pen and twenty minutes.
Page one: the index
Leave the first two pages for an index. Every time you start a new collection, write its title and page number here.
Page two: the future log
Divide a spread into six boxes, one for each of the next six months. Birthdays, exam dates and deadlines go here.
Page three: the monthly log
Write the dates down the left margin and the first letter of each day beside them. One line per day is enough.
Page four: the daily log
Write today's date and list tasks with a dot, events with a circle and notes with a dash. Cross the dot when a task is done. Move unfinished tasks forward with an arrow.
What to add later
A habit tracker, a reading list and a savings page are the three collections people keep longest. Mild highlighters and a roll of washi tape help you find pages quickly, but they are optional.
