Organic cotton is the same plant as any other cotton. What changes is how it is grown: no synthetic pesticides, no synthetic fertilisers and no genetically modified seed.
Why it matters
Conventional cotton uses a large share of the world's insecticides for the land it occupies. Growing it organically keeps those chemicals out of the soil, out of the groundwater and away from the people who work the fields.
What it does not mean
Organic does not automatically mean softer, and it does not mean a garment was sewn fairly. Those depend on the yarn, the knit and the workshop. That is why we tell you the fabric weight and where each piece is made.
A good tee is one you still wear in five years. The fibre is only the start.
How to tell
Look for the fibre content on the label and ask the brand where it was grown and sewn. If nobody can answer, that is an answer too.
