Notes from the dye house

Why our colours are quiet, and what it takes to make a clay or a sage that stays put.

Our palette is small on purpose: unbleached, oat, clay, sage and moss. Each one is chosen because it can be dyed at low temperature with dyes that fix well, so less colour ends up in the rinse water.

Unbleached is a colour

The cream of an unbleached tee is the cotton's own shade. Skipping the bleach saves a full wet process.

Deep shades take more

Dark colours need more dye and more rinsing. That is why moss is our only deep shade, and why we do not chase a new colour every season.

Looking after colour

Wash dark pieces inside out and cool, and dry them in the shade. Sunlight fades natural fibres faster than washing does.
