Battery cameras go up in minutes. Wired ones never need charging. Here is how to choose without regretting it in six months.

There is no single right answer here. The better choice depends on where the camera is going and how much you want to think about it afterwards.

The case for battery

Battery cameras need no cabling, so they suit renters, brick walls and awkward corners. Most last three to six months per charge with normal activity. Busy spots, such as a street-facing driveway, drain them much faster.

The case for wired

A wired camera records around the clock and never needs taking down to charge. It costs more to install, but for a main entrance or a business it is usually worth it.

A sensible mix

Many homes end up with both: wired on the front door and driveway, battery for the side gate and the shed. Add a small solar panel to a battery camera in a sunny spot and you may never charge it again.
