Entrances, staff codes, stock rooms and closing routines: the basics every shop and office should have in place.
Small businesses rarely need a complicated system. They need a few things done properly and checked regularly.
Cover the entrances
Put a camera on every public door at head height, and a sensor on any door or window that staff do not use every day. The back door is the one most often forgotten.
Give everyone their own code
Shared codes get written on sticky notes. Individual codes tell you who opened up, who locked up, and can be removed the day someone leaves.
Protect the stock room and the till
One camera on the till and one on the stock room door settle most disputes quickly. Keep at least 14 days of recordings.
Make closing a routine
Set the alarm to arm on a schedule and send an alert if it is still off after closing time. Test the siren once a month and replace sensor batteries once a year.
