Why a polarised lens calms the glare off water and stone, and when you might prefer a gradient.

Light reflecting off flat surfaces like the sea, a terrace or a white road becomes horizontally polarised. A polarised lens holds a vertical filter that quietly blocks that glare.
The result is richer colour and less squinting. The trade-off: some phone and car screens can look dark through them, which is why our Côte d'Azur also comes in a soft gradient.
