GSM, explained without the sales pitch

GSM is grams per square metre. It tells you how heavy a fabric is, and nothing else. A heavy fabric is not automatically a better one.

What the numbers feel like

A 160 GSM tee is light and a little see-through in white. At 220 to 240 it hangs straight and keeps a boxy shape. Hoodies start to feel substantial around 360 and properly heavy past 400.

Heat

Heavy cotton is warm. In May, a 240 GSM tee is the upper limit for most people. Our 420 GSM Slab hoodie is for air conditioning, late nights and December.

What matters more

Yarn quality and how the fabric is finished. Combed cotton pills less. Pre-shrunk fabric keeps its size. We list all of it on each product page so you can compare.
