Ten good pieces beat forty average ones. How to build a rail where everything works with everything else.
Start with the cloth
A jacket is only as good as what it is cut from. Worsted for sharpness, woollen for texture, cotton for warmth-weather ease. Learn to feel the difference and you will never overpay for a label again.
Build around three colours
Navy, grey and a warm earth tone such as tobacco or olive will carry you through almost any week. Add white and pale blue shirting, and every piece suddenly has five partners.
Look after it
Brush wool after wearing, give it a day off between outings, and use a shaped hanger. A good coat treated well will outlast three cheap ones.
Alter, don't replace
A hem, a taper or a little suppression at the waist can turn a nearly-right piece into your favourite. That is what the Tailoring Room is for.
