Aftercare guide

Most of how a tattoo looks in ten years is decided in the first two weeks. Follow this and it will heal sharp. If anything looks wrong, message us before you message the internet.

New tattoo

  1. 01
    Hours 0-4

Keep the wrap or film on as your artist told you. Film can stay on for up to 3 days; plastic wrap comes off after 2 to 4 hours.

  2. 02
    Days 1-3

Wash twice a day with clean hands, lukewarm water and a fragrance-free wash. Pat dry with kitchen paper. Let it breathe for ten minutes, then a rice-grain of balm.

  3. 03
    Days 4-14

It will flake and itch. Do not pick or scratch: slap it gently if you must. Keep moisturising thinly. No swimming, sauna, gym on the area or direct sun.

  4. 04
    Weeks 3-6

The surface is closed but the skin underneath is still settling. It may look a little cloudy or shiny; that clears. Keep it out of the sun.

  5. 05
    For life

SPF 50 on healed ink every time it sees the sun. Sun fades colour and blurs fine lines faster than anything else. Touch-ups are free within three months.

New piercing

Spray sterile saline twice a day, pat dry with a clean non-woven pad, and otherwise leave it alone. No twisting, no creams, no sleeping on it. Come back after 4 to 8 weeks for a free downsize to a shorter post.

  1. 01
    Twice a day

Spray sterile saline on the front and back. Wait a minute, then pat dry with a clean non-woven pad. Never cotton buds.

  2. 02
    Hands off

Do not twist or turn the jewellery, and avoid sleeping on it. A travel pillow helps for ear piercings.

  3. 03
    Downsize at 4-8 weeks

The first post is long to allow for swelling. Come back for a free downsize to stop snagging and angle changes.

  4. 04
    Healed means healed

Lobes take 6 to 8 weeks, cartilage 6 to 12 months. Change jewellery only once fully healed, ideally with us.

What we use

Healing questions

Redness, swelling and flaking are normal for a few days. Heat, spreading redness or pus are not: call us or a doctor.

How do you keep things sterile?
Single-use needles and cartridges opened in front of you, barrier film on every surface, medical-grade disinfectant between clients and an autoclave with weekly spore tests for anything reusable. Ask to see the log any time.
Do I need to fill in a form?
Yes. After you book, we email a link to a short consent and health form. Fill it in before your appointment so we can check anything that matters, such as blood thinners, allergies or skin conditions.
Are touch-ups free?
One touch-up within three months of your appointment is free if the healing was looked after. Book it from the touch-up option on the booking page.
How long does a tattoo take to heal?
The surface heals in two to three weeks; the skin underneath settles over about two months. Follow the aftercare guide, keep it out of the sun and do not pick.
