Why Linen Softens With Time

A short guide to living with linen upholstery, from its first creases to lasting softness.

A fabric that improves with use

New linen has a crisp, slightly dry hand. With every week of use its long fibres relax, the surface softens and the colour gains a gentle depth. Creases are part of its character, and they settle into an easy, lived-in texture rather than sharp folds.

Linen is also naturally strong and breathable, which keeps it cool in summer and comfortable all year. Our upholstery linens are pre-washed, so they arrive already on their way to that relaxed feel.

Everyday care

Vacuum cushions with a soft brush attachment every few weeks and turn them regularly so they wear evenly. Blot spills straight away with a clean, damp cloth, working from the outside in. Removable covers can be washed cold on a gentle cycle and dried flat.
