Inside the Casselle Atelier

Meet the makers who shape each frame by hand, and follow a piece from rough plank to home.

From plank to home

Every Casselle piece begins as a stack of rough-sawn planks drying slowly at the back of our Portland atelier. Our makers choose each board for its grain and colour, then plane, cut and join the frame largely by hand, using techniques that have changed little in generations.

Joints are fitted rather than forced, so they stay tight as the wood moves over the years. Surfaces are sanded through several grits and finished with natural oils that protect the timber while letting it breathe.

Built to be repaired

Because every part is made to be taken apart, a Casselle piece can be refinished, reupholstered or repaired instead of replaced. It is the quietest form of sustainability we know: furniture that is worth keeping, and easy to keep.
