Chai at the window: a morning in Naggar
28 Sep 2026 · 4 min read

The first hour of the day at Deodar Attic, from wood smoke to the first bus up the hill.
The kitchen chimney starts before the birds do. By six, Kamla has the milk on and the ginger crushed, and the valley is still a bowl of blue mist.
The first cup
Chai in the hills is strong and sweet, and it is always poured from a height. Take it to the attic window and watch the light climb down the far ridge one terrace at a time.
Then, nothing
The beauty of a homestay morning is that nothing is planned. Walk to the temple, sit in the orchard, or go back to bed. Breakfast will wait for you.
