Soft first
Every fabric is tested on the inside of a wrist before it is approved. If it scratches, it does not make it into a sleepsuit.
Petit Pépin began in 2020 at a kitchen table in Hudson, with a pile of outgrown baby clothes and a question: why are tiny clothes made to last only three months? Today we are a team of nine designing soft, pastel pieces from newborn to ten, cut in organic cotton and wool, with room to grow built into every seam. When they are outgrown, we take them back and pass them on.
The studioEvery fabric is tested on the inside of a wrist before it is approved. If it scratches, it does not make it into a sleepsuit.
Fold-back cuffs, two-position poppers and longer bodies mean each size fits for a season or two longer.
Our hand-me-down trade-in gives credit for outgrown pieces and passes them on to a new family, mended and clean.
The life of a piece
1We start with organic cotton and merino from two family spinners, dyed in soft pastels with low-impact dyes.
2Patterns are graded in true age sizes and given extra length, roll-up cuffs and adjustable straps.
3Samples go to our tester families for a month of crawling, climbing and puddles before anything is approved.
4When it is outgrown, it comes back to us, gets mended and goes to the next little person.
