Start with the room, not the sofa
Before you fall for a shape or a fabric, measure the space it will live in. Note the length of the wall, the position of doors and radiators, and the route people take through the room. Allow at least 80 cm for walkways and around 45 cm between the sofa and a coffee table.
Then map the footprint on the floor with painter's tape and live with it for a day or two. Walk around it, pull up a chair where the arm would be, and check that doors still open freely. It is the simplest way to see whether a size that looks right on paper feels right in the room.
Test how you sit
Seat depth matters as much as length. Deeper seats suit people who like to curl up; shallower seats are easier for upright conversation and for getting up again. If you are unsure, book a consultation and we will help you compare sizes against your floor plan.
