Type that works at sixteen pixels and sixteen feet
How we pick and test typefaces for identities that live on phones, hoardings and everything in between.

(By the Northform studio)
A typeface chosen on a 27-inch monitor at 72 points tells you almost nothing about how it will behave on a delivery app at 14 pixels.
Test small first
We set every candidate face at body size on a mid-range Android phone before we look at it big. Most fail here.
Then test far away
Next, a print-out taped to the end of the studio corridor. If you cannot read it at twelve metres it will not survive a hoarding on Outer Ring Road.
Pair for a job
One family for doing the work, one for character. In this site, Host Grotesk does the work and Libre Caslon brings the accent.
