Thumbstop · Short vertical ads

Colour first. Then the hook.

The thumb decides in a third of a second, and colour is what it sees before any word. We make ads that choose their colour first, for brands that want to be noticed, wanted, believed, rested with or earned.

01 Attention

Look at this.

Launches, new things, anything that has to be seen before it is understood.

Yellow is the colour the eye settles on first against almost anything else, which is why hazard signs and taxis wear it. In a feed it has registered before the thumb has decided what to do.

Pair
Violet against it, because the two sit opposite on the wheel and neither can hide.
Light
Hard flash, crisp shadows, saturated.

02 Desire

Want this.

Offers, food, beauty, anything bought on appetite.

Red raises the pulse a little and shortens the distance between seeing and wanting. It is the colour of ripeness and of a sale, and the body reads both before the mind catches up.

Pair
Cream against it, so the heat has somewhere soft to land.
Light
Warm tungsten, close, glossy.

03 Trust

Believe this.

Founders, trades, services, anything bought on a promise.

Blue is the colour people name first when asked what they trust, and the one banks, uniforms and hospitals reach for. It lowers the voice of a message and lets a person carry it.

Pair
Sky against navy, so the depth stays calm rather than cold.
Light
Soft window daylight, documentary, honest.

04 Calm

Breathe.

Wellbeing, skincare, sleep, anything bought to feel better.

Green asks the least of the eye, which is why it sits in the middle of the spectrum and in every hospital corridor. A message set in it feels slower than it is, and that is the point.

Pair
Deep green on sage, one colour at two depths, so nothing shouts.
Light
Soft early morning light, airy, pale.

05 Prestige

Earn this.

Premium, limited, anything whose price is part of the product.

Black is the absence that makes everything else expensive. Put one gold line on it and the eye reads scarcity and care before it has read a word, because that is how every box it has ever opened looked.

Pair
Gold, and almost none of it.
Light
One low light, deep shadow, gold edges.

06 Method

Feeling, hook, cut.

Three decisions, in that order, for every ad we make.

  1. A white wall of colour swatches and blank storyboard cards

    01 The feeling

What should a person feel in the first third of a second?

We answer that first and choose the colour that does it, before anyone writes a word.

  2. A phone on a small tripod filming a yellow can under a ring light

    02 The hook

One object, one motion, nothing to read.

The first frame has one job. If the thumb stops, the rest of the ad gets to exist.

  3. Paint swatch cards fanned on a desk beside a phone

    03 The cut

Made in the colour, cut for a phone held upright.

Then three more, because the second one usually wins, and nobody knows which until it runs.

08 Book a call

Five questions, then a time.

Answer these and the call starts with your colour already chosen. Twenty minutes, no deck.

The studio: 2nd floor, 14 Hosur Road, Koramangala 4th Block, Bengaluru 560034. Mon to Fri, 10:00 to 19:00 IST.

What should people feel when they see you?

09 Questions

Before you book.

Do you only make ads in one colour?

No. The colour is where we start, because it is what a person sees first. Each ad is then cut in the colour that suits what it has to do, and most brands end up with two worlds: one to be noticed in and one to be trusted in.

What do you need from us?

The product, an hour with whoever knows why people buy it, and access to wherever your ads run. We shoot, write and cut the rest.

How long does the first ad take?

We agree the colour and the hook in the first week and show the first cut in the second. After that it is a rhythm, not a project.

Can we see results?

On the call, for brands that have agreed to share them, and for yours as they come in. Nothing on this page is a number, because a number you cannot check is an ad for us, not a fact for you.
